Plain words: what we keep, why, who helps us run it, and how to get it back or delete it. If anything here is unclear, write to us and we’ll fix the page.
The short version
Your designs are yours. We don’t claim them, sell them, publish them or show them to anyone else.
Your work never trains AI. We don’t train AI models on your designs, notes or feedback, and we only use AI providers that don’t train on it. AI features are off until you turn them on.
Sponsors, never surveillance. We don’t sell your personal information. Sponsors may appear, clearly labeled, but they never get your data or track you. No ad networks, data brokers, tracking cookies or session recording.
Usage notes are off until you say yes. Even then: never your email, never what’s in your designs.
Leave any time, with everything. Download everything we hold about you in one file, then delete your account from inside the app.
We tell you before it changes. Any change that matters gets 14 days’ notice by email first.

What we collect
If you join the launch listYour email address and when you signed up.
If you ask to test Knife PlanYour email address, and only the answers you tap: how you make knives, what you make, how you draw them today, roughly how many you’ve made, and anything you write. We use it to pick testers and write back to you. You also join the launch list.
If you have an accountYour email address, the name you choose, your plan, and whether you’re a founding tester. You sign in with a one-time code sent to your email.
Knives you saveYour designs and their settings, plus anything you type into them: notes, prices, costs, and any customer details you add to a proof. Only you can see them.
Feedback you sendWhat you write, the screen and pattern you were on, your browser type and screen size, and a copy of that knife’s settings so we can reproduce the problem.
Usage notes, only if you say yesWhich tools you open, which steps you visit, and which settings you changed, tied to your account number rather than your email. When you print or download a cut file, which starter pattern it came from (or “your own”), what it’s for, and the steel and thickness, so we can see totals like the most-cut steels. Never the shape, sizes, name or notes of your designs. Off until you turn it on; turn it off any time on your Account page.
Technical logsOur hosting provider keeps short-lived logs, such as IP addresses and browser type, to run the site and stop abuse.
That’s the whole list. We don’t buy data about you, and we don’t combine what we hold with data from anywhere else.
How we use it
| What | Why | Basis |
| Email and name | Sign you in, keep your knives with your account, answer you, tell you about changes that affect you | Needed to run your account |
| Request to test | Pick a small group of testers and write back to you | You asked us to |
| Launch-list email | Tell you when Knife Plan opens, and rarely share a build note | You asked us to |
| Saved knives | Store them and show them back to you on any device you sign in on | Needed to run your account |
| Feedback | Find and fix problems, decide what to build next | You sent it to us |
| Usage notes | Learn which tools matter, so we fix the right things first | Your yes, which you can take back |
| Technical logs | Keep the site up and stop abuse | Keeping the service safe |
We don’t use any of it to target ads, we don’t build profiles of you, and we don’t make automated decisions that affect you. The service emails we send are about your account; anything else, like build notes, you can turn off.
Customer details on your proofs
If you put a customer’s name or contact on a proof, it’s stored with your design so you can print it. We treat it like the rest of your design: only you see it, and we never contact your customers. Please only add details your customer is happy for you to keep.
On your device
Knife Plan keeps a working copy of your designs and settings in your browser’s own storage, so it’s fast and keeps working on a spotty shop connection. That copy stays on your device. Signing out leaves it there; “Delete my account and data” clears it. On a shared computer, clear the site data in your browser when you’re done.
We use only what’s needed to keep you signed in. No advertising or cross-site tracking cookies.
AI
- No training on your work. We don’t train AI models on your designs, notes, feedback or usage notes, and we don’t sell or license them to anyone who would.
- AI features are your choice. If Knife Plan adds AI features, such as suggesting a shape or reading a photo of a pattern, each one is off until you turn it on. When you use one, what you send goes to the AI provider named in the data processors table, only to produce your answer, under terms that don’t let the provider train on it or keep it longer than needed.
- Reading feedback. We may use AI tools to help us read and sort the feedback and usage notes you send, under settings or terms that don’t let the provider train on them.
- Asking first. If we ever want to use your data for AI in a way not described here, we’ll ask you first. Saying no won’t change anything else about your account.
Knife Plan may be supported by sponsors, such as makers of steel, belts or tools. Sponsored content is always labeled, so you know when something is paid for.
- Sponsors never get your personal information: not your email, your designs or what you do in the app.
- No tracking for sponsors. No sponsor pixels, trackers or ad targeting. A sponsor message looks the same to everyone; it isn’t picked for you based on what you’ve done.
- Totals only. We may tell a sponsor overall numbers, such as how many people use Knife Plan or how many knives were planned in a steel, never anything that could identify you.
- Leaving our site. If you follow a link to a sponsor’s site, their own privacy policy applies there.
Third-party data processors
These are the companies that process data for us to run Knife Plan. Each may only use your data to provide its service to us, under its own data processing terms. None of them is an advertiser or data broker.
| Provider | What it does | What it sees | Where |
| Cloudflare, Inc. | Hosts the site and runs the sign-in gate for testers | IP addresses and browser details for every visit; your email when you sign in to the beta | Worldwide network; company in the USA |
| Supabase, Inc. | Our database, account sign-in, and the emails that carry your sign-in code | Your account, saved knives, feedback and usage notes | USA (Northern California) |
| jsDelivr | Serves two open-source code libraries the app uses | IP addresses when the libraries load. Nothing else | Worldwide network |
No authentication through social networks, no advertising, analytics or session-replay services, and no payment processor yet. When paid plans open, the payment processor joins this list before it handles anything, and it will see card details we never see. If we add or change a provider, we’ll update this list first.
We’ll only hand data to anyone else if the law makes us, and if that happens we’ll tell you first unless we’re legally barred from doing so. If Knife Plan is ever sold, this page goes with it: the new owner keeps these promises, or you get the 14 days’ notice and the chance to download and delete first.
How long we keep it
- Account and saved knives: until you delete them or your account.
- Feedback: deleted automatically 24 months after you send it.
- Usage notes: deleted automatically 12 months after they’re sent.
- Requests to test: deleted automatically 12 months after you send one.
- Launch-list email: until you unsubscribe, or until Knife Plan opens and you decide whether to stay.
- Backups: we keep daily backups so a mistake can’t lose your work. When you delete something, it’s gone from the live service right away and drops out of the backups within 7 days.
Your choices
- Get a copy: “Download my data” on your Account page gives you everything we hold about you in one file: your knives, account details, the feedback you’ve sent and your usage notes. The same file restores your knives on another computer.
- Delete everything: use “Delete my account and data” on your Account page. It removes your account, knives, feedback and usage notes from our servers, your launch-list entry, and the copy in that browser. Or email us and we’ll do it within 30 days.
- Correct something: change your name on your Account page, or email us.
- Stop usage notes: untick “Help improve Knife Plan” on your Account page.
- Leave the launch list: reply to any email from us, or write to us.
These apply wherever you live. That covers the rights people have in California, the EU and the UK: to know what we hold, get a copy, correct it, delete it, or object to how we use it. We answer within 30 days, we won’t treat you differently for asking, and you can always complain to your local data protection authority.
Do Not Track and Global Privacy Control
We don’t track you across other websites, and we don’t sell or share your personal information for advertising, so there’s nothing for these signals to turn off. If your browser sends either one, we honor it anyway: usage notes stay off unless you turn them on yourself.
If something goes wrong
If your data is ever exposed, we’ll tell you promptly and plainly: what happened, what it touched, and what we’re doing about it. How we protect your data is on the Security page.
Young makers
Lots of makers start young, and they’re welcome. Because the law sets special rules for collecting data from children, anyone under 13 should use Knife Plan through a parent or guardian’s account. The parent can see, download or delete everything at any time. If we learn we’ve collected a child’s data without that, we’ll delete it, and a parent can ask us to at any time.
Changes and contact
If this page changes in a way that matters, we’ll email you at least 14 days before it takes effect, say so in the app, and update the date at the top. We won’t use data you’ve already given us in a materially new way without asking you first. Small fixes like typos just update the date.
